Moon Society Staff

The Moon Society has no paid staff, full time or part time.

Membership Processing is farmed out on a per piece basis.

The Society has recently responded to the availability of a well-qualified volunteer with substantial retirement free time to dedicate to the Society's needs by creating the following position, effective July 5, 2006.

Director of Project Development - David A. Dunlop

David A. Dunlop, already a Moon Society Advisor, has assumed this as hoc title and will be assisting the Moon Society President in developing new projects. He has volunteered to help with those projects deemed important by the President but which the President does not have either the time, or the needed expertise to handle.

Dave's expertise includes project and team management, grant proposal writing, and event organizing.

Dave's front burner project was to help organize a strong Moon Society presence at ISDC 2007. The Society hosted a hospitality room for its members, friends, and curious visitors, and co-chaired the Moon Track at ISDC. We hope to continue this strong presence at the annual ISDC under Dave's leadership, continuing with ISDC 2008.

Dave also has been helping the Society President develop The University of Luna Project. This project has the potential to organize everything the Moon Society does and hopes to do and keep it on track to ensure that a first Moonbase is just the first phase of a permanent civilian settlement on the Moon.

He also took the lead in extending Moon Society influence abroad by helping member Jesus Raygoza of NSS' Guadalajara, Mexico chapter, and the developer of the MexLunarHab analog moonbase proposal to create the Mexican Space Society, as a Moon Society affiliate, and to put together a comprehensive program to recommend to the newly created Mexican Space Agency, AEXA, incorporating exciting projects and initiatives within the very modest $2 million initial AEXA budget.

Director of Public Relations, PR Team members - [positions open]

Basic Core Job Description:

Expanded Job Description - As this is a volunteer position, the PR function can become what the volunteer has time and energy to make of it. Below are some ideas of appropriate additional self-assignments. A volunteer, possibly retired, with more discretionary free time might consider any selection of these options and assign them priorities according to his/her experience and comfort level.

# Participate in Leadership Council Meetings on ASI-MOO, the first and third Wednesday evenings of the month.

# Preview and give input on periodic E-Reports to current and former members of the Society prepared by the President and others, prior to their being sent out.

# Study the Society's mission objectives, as well as current and planned projects with a view to developing public relations strategies that will influence public opinion, motivate individuals to join the society, or otherwise promote the Society's work.

# Serve as an ex officio member of a liaison team tasked with finding areas of effective collaboration with other space-interest organizations

# Look for contest, competition, and challenge opportunities for the Society to sponsor or cosponsor at nominal cost

# Review and give feedback on promotional and outreach materials developed by the President or others.

# Coordinate production of budgeted. posters, brochures, prizes and other professionally produced items, including targeted advertising.

# Respond to requests for information from the media or designate another appropriate spokesperson or information source.

# Arrange public appearances, speaking engagements, exhibits, or other promotional opportunities to increase awareness of Society goals and projects and to promote goodwill. Look for those opportunities that entail minimal travel and lodging and/or shipping expenses, or which offer compensation for services provided.

# Look for low budget ad space opportunities

# Coach chapter and outpost people on effective communication skills - this can be done by email or by posting tips on the Space Chapter Hub.

# Monitor developing trends and key group interests and peruse market and public opinion research that give us an introductory topic

Given the many opportunities to pursue this role, there is ample room for a PR Team of volunteers. One is good. More is better to share the work load!
