About the ISDC

The ISDC is the annual conference of the National Space Society. Presentations at the ISDC are typically geared toward a more general, tech-savvy audience of NSS members. Past ISDC attendance ranges from several hundred to more than a thousand people. The audience includes people from all areas related to outer space, both professionals and lay enthusiasts, representing the broad interests and demographics of the National Space Society.

Conference Theme and Suggested Topics for Papers

The theme for the conference is "Settling the Solar System." Presentations related to the development and settlement of Luna would be most appropriate.

Some suggestions for topics we need to address:

  • Architecture and design of lunar settlements
  • Economics of lunar settlements
  • Mining the moon: equipment, technical details, markets
  • Lunar tourism
  • Lunar power
  • Transportation systems on the moon
  • Cislunar transportation systems
  • How Luna can support outbound missions
  • Property issues
  • Political motivations for developing lunar settlements
  • Life styles on the lunar settlers
  • Public interest in lunar settlement and tourism
  • What we can do to prepare for and bring about lunar settlement
  • Projects for the Moon Society, and how to make them happen

The moon programming session is scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2002, from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with a break from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM.

Programming is fairly fast-paced with talks scheduled every half hour. Generally they like to do a 15-minute presentation, allowing 10 minutes for discussion and a 5-minute break between presentations.

I haven't yet divided up the day into specific sessions because I want to stay flexible about how we organize the program until we have a good idea of what you want to say to the members of the National Space Society.
