I, Chuck Schlemm, Moon Society Nashville Outpost, did a 6 hour space exploration exhibit at Nashville’s Adventure Science Center 8/22 from 9-3:00. Their planetarium is closed for renovation, so they were looking for some substitute science activities.
I showed models of the Space Shuttle, ISS, Artemis SLS, Orion & Lunar Gateway, SpaceX’s Crew Dragon, Falcon 9, Falcon Heavy, Starship, Super Heavy booster, launch tower and HLS Lunar Lander. Also showed Blue Origin’s New Shepard, New Glenn and Blue Moon lander. I shared the Artemis Moon mission plans using these models.
I presented the proposed Bigelow Aerospace Moon base with rovers and robots to talk to guests about possible future exploration and utilization of the Moon. I had an 8’x8’ “Build a Moon Base” play area to fire up some astronaut engineer’s imaginations. And a milk jug gravity demonstration of different solar system body’s gravity strengths.
I also showed models of a Mars base, Hubble Space Telescope, Voyager and Europa Clipper.
I spoke with ~150 of the 450 guests. I also met an astronaut to be. Vanderbilt’s cardiologist Dr. Eiman Jahangir was talking to me, while I was packing up at closing, when he mentioned he was going to be flying on New Shepard 26. His flight is next Thursday 8/29. You just never know what space knowledge someone might have when they walk up. He worked at ASC 20 years ago as a student and may have seen one of my earlier exhibits there.
The exhibition went well and I enjoyed talking with many interested guests. Photos below. I will do another exhibit next Thursday 8/29.
I gave away most of the last of my Moon Society brochures. Please send more for future events.
Thank you.
