The Artemis Project

The Artemis Project is a commercial Lunar Settlement plan, designed in the 1990s. It is named after goddess Artemis in Greek mythology who was the goddess of the Moon and the sister of Apollo. The Artemis Project described here is not related to the current NASA program to return humans to the Moon by 2024, also named Artemis.

Our organization was founded by the designers and advocates of this detailed plan to fund and launch the mission to establish the first private sector Moon Base.

Greg Bennett, a former NASA mission controller, wrote an article about the Artemis Project that originally appeared in Analog Magazine in January 1995.

In January 2020, The Moon Society completed purchase of a majority stake of The Lunar Resources Company, which owned the intellectual property of the original 1990’s era Artemis Project.

We have republished the original Analog article in its entirely here.
